With a regal attitude, this queen bee is the ruler of her Wisconsin loft, and she knows it!
Wait until you see this cutie…
We all know that cats live to be worshiped, but our Frisky Feline Feature for this Friday happens to be a goddess in disguise.
Meet Athena Apricat, princess and all-around boss of her loft apartment in Madison, Wisconsin, and her two humans, Frankie and Jon.
Tell us a little bit about Athena.
“Athena Apricat is a lap kitty with an attitude fit for a goddess. She wasn’t always treated like the queen she is, however.
Athena was found outside of an apartment complex in southern Wisconsin, and she was carrying kittens. Animal control picked her up and brought her to Dane County Humane Society where she was spayed and, unfortunately, lost her kittens. She was at the shelter for almost two weeks before she was adopted by [us].”
It sounds like she had a rough time before you found her. How did you end up choosing Athena?
“I [Frankie] went to the shelter and felt an instant connection with Athena (who was then named Apricot). This little cat had clearly been through a storm and I, as a gender studies PhD, heard her story and thought the cat needed some feminism.
When [we] met, Athena (then, Apricot) immediately made herself at home on [my] lap and the bond was instant. [I] decided she needed a name fit for a goddess and took her home that day.”
I bet she made herself right at home! What’s she up to these days?
“Athena reigns over a big loft and wants for nothing. She follows [me] everywhere and sleeps between her humans every night.”
Does she have any favorite possessions?
“She loves her many cat beds and obsessively chases Oscar, a small, gray catnip mouse. Her second favorite toy is a jellyfish on a stick. She loves reading with [me] and watching TV with Jon. Her favorite nap spot is by the window where she cuddles with her Dory fish. She is curious about bathtubs and hides in human sweaters. Above all, she is adored and exalted!”
Athena sounds like quite the character. We were very glad to meet her, and we hope you were too! You can check out her daily adventures on her Instagram account at @athena.apricat. All hail the queen!
