I first came across news of the OASE biOrb aquarium when I read Cat Wisdom 101’s blog post about their trip to the 2016 Global Pet Expo. The expo is the largest showcase of its kind and features oodles of pet products that haven’t yet hit the market.

The biOrb Halo

Although there are many different styles of OASE aquariums, the Halo is the one that was shown most prominently at the 2016 Global Pet Expo. It’s this gigantic spherical aquarium that’s made of durable and sustainable materials.

The biOrb got its start all the way back in 1999. It was originally a spherical design that slowly evolved to incorporate other shapes like wide and tall cylinders, vertical rectangles, and more.

Advanced Filtration

Now, it’s been a few decades years since I’ve had an aquarium, but I remember the filter being a bit… weak. We were constantly having to clean it out, which took darn near forever and a solid 20 gallons (because we had to go big).

OASE developed a filtration system for the biOrb aquarium that started cleaning from the bottom of the tank where the most icky stuff was. There’s a constant circular flow of water that keeps everything sparkling clean. You only have to change the filter every four weeks!

Mindblowingly Durable

This isn’t a glass aquarium. The biOrb Halo, along with its sister designs, is made from a strong acrylic mixture that’s 10x stronger than glass.

How Much Does The BiOrb Cost?

I bet you’re wondering how many thousands of dollars this aquarium is worth. You may want to sit down for this one.

Google Shopping lists most of the different designs, and biOrb Classics start at only $81 in the U.S. market. Converted to U.S. measurements, sizes include the 4-gallon, 8-gallon, 16-gallon, and 28 gallon. I had a 20-gallon tank back in the day, and I can tell you that a 28-gallon tank is HUGE.

Amazon has the best deal of all. The 16-gallon biOrb Life (you know, the one listed for $525 on Google?) is available on Amazon for only $470.

Official Price Range For A BiOrb Aquarium

You’re looking at anywhere from $81-$540. It all depends on the model/design and size. The biOrb Classic runs the cheapest, while the biOrb Life is the most expensive.

Pros

BiOrb aquariums are super easy to maintain, and you’ll save tons of money, time and effort thanks to its efficiency. The design is truly unique, something no other aquarium company has accomplished. Thanks to its durable design, your cat is going to find it impossible to break or tip over.

Cons

Ooh, here’s the stickler. Other aquariums of the same size are way cheaper. If design, efficiency and lifetime cost don’t matter to you, a more common brand is the way to go. On the other hand, if you want a cool looking aquarium that will cost you less over time, you should choose the biOrb.
